Biography

I was born in Rotherham, England, in 1950, an identical twin. I am basically self taught in art and have painted for many years, indeed from childhood and although not a practising professional artist (I do not earn my living from art) I do try to set myself professional standards in the execution of my work.

Working full time, in the sales office of a busy engineering company, leaves limited time, however, for my painting activities and therefore I try to make the most of evenings, weekends and holidays.
In my early days I had a passion for motor sport subjects and would often try to emulate the style of my, then, great hero Michael Turner. If only I was as good!

Although living on the doorstep of the Peak District, an obvious source for painting subjects, my favourite landscape locations, and those which give me the most inspiration, are to be found in the English Lake District of Cumbria and in Scotland, especially the glorious West Coast.

I am quite happy to consider taking commissions, depending on subject matter.
In 1999 I was very honoured to be commissioned by Mr. Anthony Wilkinson, chairman of the nationwide Wilkinson Group of hardware stores, to do a painting of his garden. . . and what a garden! The resulting painting, which I rather cheekily entitled 'Wilko Park' ended up as a triptich (three paintings in one).
Three years later I was commissioned, by Wilkinsons, to produce that years group Christmas card, the subject being the Chesterfield store.

Occasionally I enjoy tackling still lifes, flowers and figure work and particularly enjoy pencil drawing. Whilst a member of Worksop Society of Artists, I had the very great pleasure, along with other members, of seeing one of my works published in the 'Leisure Painter' magazine of May 1999.

A prize winning artist, I am a former member and past Vice-President of Worksop Society of Artists. I am currently a member of Hallam Art Group in Sheffield, who hold exhibitions twice a year, and S.A.A. (the Socitey for All Artists : www.saa.co.uk).
I also exhibit at the Great Sheffield Art Show (www.gsas.co.uk), held each July at the Octagon Centre in Sheffield University, and have, on occasion, acted as selection judge for this prestigeous event.
